Location

Situated 24 Kms. upstream from Haridwar, at the confluence of the Chandrabhaga and Ganga - lies Rishikesh, one of the best located pilgrimage centres along the right bank of the Ganga.

Rishikesh - known as the "City of the Divine" - has been a spiritual centre to the which sages, Rishis, saints and pilgrims have flocked for millennia. Entering the city and wandering towards the Ashram, you will find yourself meandering through a bustling marketplace of merchants with their ethnic arts and handicrafts . The road is lined with fresh produce markets, holy shrines and orange robed Sadhus. Then, you come upon a swinging foot bridge, suspended high over the sacred Ganges River. On the other side of the bridge, in a land called Swargashram (meaning "Heavenly Adobe") lies the Ashram.

The Ashram is a spiritual haven, resting serenely on the banks of the holy Ganga(Ganges), nestled in the lap of the Himalayas. The ashrams beautiful architecture and aesthetic presentation of pious themes create an atmosphere of true spiritual sublimity.

Accomodations

There are about 1,000 residential rooms that retain the simplicity of ashram living and yet are equipped with the necessary modern amenities. The ashram provides a clean, pure and sacred atmosphere to thousands of pilgrims and devotees.

Daily Divine Activities

Daily Divine ActivitiesEach morning from 5 to 6 am, all ashram residents join together for universal prayer and meditation. We say "universal" because the emphasis is on pure, devotional worship, rather than on one name or form of the Supreme.

Each evening as the sun's last rays reflect off the boundless waters of Mother Ganga, we gather for the Ganga aarti. This divine light ceremony is filled with devotional song, prayer, ritual and a palpable sense of the divine. The aarti, an ornate oil lamp, lined with dozens of flames burning in pure ghee is offered to God. We give thanks for the blessings bestowed upon us that day, as well as symbolically offering light back to God. Aarti is a time when we break free from the normal stresses and strains of every-day life, and gather together in joy, reverence and peace. As the bright yellow sun dips in the water, and the reflection of its rays bring tears to our eyes, we are filled anew with a deep sense of bliss, reverence and spiritual connection.

In the backyard of the Ashram a place known as Shangri-La, is created and completed. It is a holy sanctuary, consisting of meditation gardens, healing pools, fountains, streams and formal walking paths. The paths will be lined with spiritual /cultural statues and symbols spanning history and continents representing the myriad religions and cultures that have inspired humanity toward a devotional path. The atmosphere is already one of silent prayer amidst the tranquil sound of flowing water, the enchanting song of joyous birds and gentle whisper of the wind moving through branches and chimes. Walking barefoot upon Mother Earth, your soul will quickly and naturally connect to both the Earth from which it was born and the Heaven from which it truly came. Shangri-La already includes floral, herbal and vegetable gardens, containing many of India's renowned medicinal plants.
