What is Ayurveda

Ayurveda is literally means "the Science of Life". For the promotion of positive health and promotion and care of diseases, it is in practice in India since the time immemorial. Health, according to Ayurveda is not nearly the freedom from diseases but the mind, sense organs and soul, all should be in perfect equilibrium. Ayurveda stresses on prevention & preservation of positive health along the care of diseases. Therefore several therapeutic measures both for patients and healthy persons are described in Ayurveda.

Panchakarma In Ayurveda

Panchakarma or the five evacuative procedures are the Ayurvedic means for active interventionin the treatment of diseases. They are means to medicine what surgical procedures are to surgery.

Diseases are only labels attached to the countless manifestations of perturbed (vitiated) 'doshas'.

The procedures of Panchakarma are designed to eliminate the perturbed or vitiated doshas and restore their balance for good health and well-being.

The main seat of doshas is the alimentary canal in the upper, middle and lower third of the tract.

When doshas accumulate, they are susceptible to perturbation by numerous factors such as dietary indiscretion, suppression of natural urges and emotional upheavals. The accumulated doshas then enter the body compartment through the openings of countless channels that criss cross through the body. When this perturbation is severe, Panchakarma becomes very effective to eliminate the doshas. (Detoxification of the body)

Ayurveda Center at Rishikesh

The Ashram is a true, spiritual haven, lying on the holy banks of Mother Ganga, in the lap of the lush Himalayas. It is also the largest ashram in Rishikesh. The Ashram provides its thousands of pilgrims - who come from all corners of the Earth - with a clean, pure and sacred atmosphere as well as abundant, beautiful gardens. With over 1000 rooms, the facilities are a perfect blend of modern amenities and traditional, spiritual simplicity. Rishikesh - known as the "City of the Divine"- is a spiritual center to which sages, rishis, saints and pilgrims have flocked for millennia.

The roads of the city are lined with bustling market places of ethnic arts and handicrafts, fresh produce markets, holy shrines and orange -robed sadhus. Then, the road narrows, the markets become more sparse and you come upon a foot bridge, suspended high over the sacred Ganga river. As you cross this bridge, the sun streaming through the sacred Himalayas to warm your being, you will feel as if you have truly come home.
